So many of us love reading home styling magazines, and we often admire the posh-looking interiors that we see in their pages.

A lot of us would love to have a hotel-like home that looks elegant and luxurious, but don’t really know how to achieve it. Especially if you’re on a budget, you’re definitely not in the mood for spending much money on home decoration when you also have other priorities.

A home designer recently shared a video on YouTube where she explained how you can make your house look expensive without “breaking the bank”.

Kristen McGowan shared 10 ways in which you can upgrade your house interior the way a specialist would do.

So if you’re up for a change at home, the following tips will definitely help you.

1. Paint colors

When deciding to redo a space, most people start by choosing the colors they are going to use around the room. According to McGowan, using a neutral base is key to making your house look bigger and more elegant.

2. The rule of three

Whenever you are decorating a corner of your home, make sure you follow the rule of three in order to have that posh feel you are looking for. So, this practically means that you use three items of different texture, size, and color and group them together.

Plants are great in this case, but they are also good for filling empty corners. Just make sure they are scaled proportionately to match the room they are placed in.

3. Use matching dishes

Although most people go for sets of dishes today, there are still cupboards out there where you can find dishes of different sizes and colors. This can make your kitchen- especially if you have open shelves- look cheap. To make sure it will look stylish, matching dishes is what you should opt for.

4. Focus on how you place the furniture

McGowan explains that there’s something about how you place the furniture that makes or breaks the luxurious style you want to achieve. Remember to place sofas and armchairs in a way that encourages conversation so that they give your living room a cozy and posh style.

5. Scent matters

A house that smells good is so much better than one that smells like nothing. Make sure you use some scented candles, wax melts, wall diffusers, or incense to add to your house an expensive touch.

6. Matching white towels

If you have towels of different colors, then it’s likely the cabinet where you keep them looks a little cheap and messy. Next time you’re out shopping, try buying a set of matching white towels and you’ll see that your bathroom will look upgraded.

7. The key is lamps

Unlike ceiling lights, floor lamps, table lamps and wall lamps make rooms look cozy and elegant, so investing on some of these can make a huge difference in your home. They don’t have to be expensive as long as they look chic.

8. Decluttering makes all the difference

Keeping your house organized and making sure you declutter regularly makes all the difference. Your house is clean and neat, and this adds so much to a luxurious feel.

9. Large pillow inserts for small pillow covers

This is actually an amazing designer hack that will help you keep your pillows fluffy and in place. Large pillow covers make your pillows look unstable, while covers that are a little smaller than the inserts give them the fluffiness and stability they need.

10. Don’t forget about the scale of the furniture

For this one, you just need to keep in mind that lower ceiling calls for smaller-scale pieces, while higher ceiling allows for larger, statement pieces of furniture. It’s all about placing items around the house proportionately.

So now you will know where to focus next time you decide to upgrade your living space.
