This property in Mangawhai, New Zealand, started as one tiny home.
One thing led to another, and it’s now a three-structure, five-bedroom tiny house that can fit more people, especially for someone who loves to have friends and family come over.
Gavin is a surfer and has been looking for a place to settle nearby.
With skyrocketing property prices in the city, he had to look for areas he could afford. And boy, did he not regret this space. He bought the land and added his tiny home. From there, he added another structure – his cabin – and much more.
He built all the structures on his property in the most sustainable way possible.
Gavin used a lot of reclaimed wood, recycled materials, and natural processes to have a lesser carbon footprint in this build.
He also had a rainwater tank, and his power was connected to the grid. Labor was not a problem since he was a builder and had family and friends to extend some help.
He was also lucky to have beautiful greenery around him.
It was his Oasis where he got the idea to name his place Oasis in the Heads. It became the central piece of his property that drew all three separate structures together.
There’s also a firepit where he and his family can enjoy a campfire outside, which doubles as a rotisserie!
His first tiny house is equipped with everyone one would need.
This lovely and spacious open space will greet you when you enter. There’s a three-seater sofa in the middle facing the sliding door out to the Oasis. It is such a comfortable spot to just chill.
On one side is the bathroom with a loft bedroom built on top.
The black-and-white theme of this bathroom gives it a sophisticated look. On top is a smaller loft bedroom where his nephews and nieces sleep when they come over.
The other side has a full-sized kitchen plus another loft bedroom.
His kitchen is complete with all the appliances he needs. Plus, there’s an ample amount of storage space situated below the staircase to the bedroom.
He also placed another door in his kitchen to improve the entrance-exit traffic when more people were staying in his place.
There is also an outdoor kitchen and dining where Gavin dines with his family.
He explained that they are a big family, and he loved when he had them over. Thus, it made a lot of sense for them to have this outdoor kitchen which is great for barbecue dinners.
The dining table allowed them to eat together without cramping in such a small space.
Gavin also built a little cabin outside, which is simply his bedroom and own bathroom.
It is where he sleeps most days. The cabin has a bathroom of the same black-and-white design as his tiny house. His cabin also features a huge sliding door facing the Oasis outside.
