DIY expert, Franziska Kouidis, explains how to make one of these charming lanterns in a video from DW Euromaxx. Just wait until you see how stunning one is at night with a lit candle inside!

Step One:

Start by hot gluing marbles around the back of the CD’s edge. You’re going to do this one by one until the edge of the CD has a circle of marbles.

But don’t just put glue on the bottom of the marbles. Franziska explains:

“Make sure to put glue on the sides of the marbles too so the whole thing is stable.”

Your CD should look similar to the one in the photo below. This is your first row of marbles.

Step Two:

You’re now going to create another row of marbles, gluing them on top of the first row. From what it appears, glue each new marble where the two below connect.

The DIY expert has a good piece of advice for when you do the project.

“Hot glue cools and hardens very quickly, so take care in placing the marbles.”

Step Three:

As you might have guessed, after your second row is completed – you’re going to move on to the next. Simply follow the same process until you have a third layer of marbles.

At this point, you’ll probably get an idea of how your lantern is going to turn out. Seriously, doesn’t it look magical already?

Step Four:

You’re going to continue gluing rows of marbles until your lantern is how tall you’d like it. Franziska creates seven rows when making hers, which seems to be a nice height.

Step Five:

Once your marble lantern is complete, pull off the excess glue strands. Almost there!

Step Six:

The only thing left to do is pop in a tea light candle. What’s great about these lanterns is they’re beautiful even when not lit up. But just wait until you see one that is…

“If you like, you can also use multi-colored marbles, which will make super great light effects.”
