How often do you clean your oven?

Depending on how many times you use it, sometimes you need to clean it once every two months, or the accumulated dirt will surprise you.

Most of the spilled meat juices, sauces, and other ingredients end up hardening and sticking to our ovens.

When you can smell the leftover oils and remains of other meals, that’s not a good thing.

That means it’s time to clean.

Mr. Gizmo posted a tutorial on how to clean your oven efficiently and effectively, without the use of harsh chemicals.

His method is fast, uses cheap ingredients, and it’s not harmful at all.

Sound too good to be true? Well, it is.

He uses 3 ingredients.

The key ingredients that Mr. Gizmo uses are baking soda and vinegar.

Sound familiar? This is because these two ingredients are readily available in your pantry, they cost less, and they’re very effective in cleaning.

How do they work?

Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), can dissolve organic matter. Its abrasiveness also helps scrub surfaces without damaging them.

Now, because of the acidity of vinegar or a diluted version of acetic acid (HC2H3O2), it’s effective in removing tough stains that it helps break down.

Also, did you know they’re opposites? Baking soda and vinegar are found on the opposite side of the pH level.

That’s why when you mix them together, you get a chemical reaction.

A good kind of chemical reaction.

Baking soda and vinegar are safe. No wonder many people prefer to use them instead of those store-bought cleaning agents that are full of harmful chemicals.

Without further ado, here’s his recipe:

The steps:

To start, make sure that you haven’t used your oven for a few hours. It’s not recommended to clean it while it is still hot.

In a bowl, mix in baking soda and water until you create a paste.

Then, using your silicone spatula spread the baking soda paste all over the inside of your oven.

If you are in a rush, you can just use your hand (with gloves on) and just smear the baking soda paste all over.

Create more paste if needed.

While doing this, you will immediately see that your paste changes color, but that’s okay.

In fact, that’s a good thing because it means the paste is working.

Time to let it work

Once you’re done, leave for at least 12 hours.

After letting it dry and sit for 12 hours, check it and you’ll see that most of the paste has dried up.

Using silicone or any non-abrasive spatula, scrape all the baking soda.

This may take a while, but it’s satisfying to see all the dirt coming off.

Using a wet rag, clean the oven until you are satisfied or no baking soda is visible.

Once clean, spray it with vinegar.

The smell won’t last.

Don’t worry about the smell; it will fade off after a few minutes.

If you can’t stand the smell of vinegar, add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the vinegar before spraying.

The vinegar will act as a disinfectant, and the entire unpleasant odor will be gone, along with the stains.

Who would have thought that simple, safe, and easy-to-find ingredients could clean your oven thoroughly?
