When Steve’s father was young, he used to dream of becoming an engineer. While he was daydreaming on the farm about the houses he would build in the future, his own father would jokingly ask him if he was building “air castles”.

So, when he grew up, he actually became an engineer, a career that his own son, Steve, also followed.

The two of them, later on, decided to make the Air Castle idea a reality. Indeed, they ended up building a modern treehouse, but way more fancy, safer, and modern than a traditional treehouse.

The first treehouse they built was meant for personal use, but later on, they realized that they enjoyed making these air castles so much that they should go ahead and build another one, this time for public use.

Indeed, they put in some serious work and countless working hours, while they also invested hundreds of thousands dollars on the project. But the end product is really making them proud.

Their air castle is located in Ladonia, Texas, close to the Dallas area. It is a guest house and one can book their stay there from as much as $330 per night.

In the video below, Steve is taking us on a tour around the house and is explaining everything about it.

The first thing that he clarifies is that the house is built from shipping containers. He and his father kind of challenged themselves to build something that is unique and that could not be built using any other material.

When people ask him why he chose containers, he is adamant that this kind of structure cannot be safe with any other material.

Then, he takes us on a tour around the inside of the house.

The three-story building features two vertical and a horizontal container which is actually supported by a tree, making it a real treehouse.

The 750 sq feet house has a large living room, a nice and functional kitchen, and it all leads to a screened in porch with a hot tub. This gives guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy nature while being literally among the trees.

There are six balconies around the house, which is great, especially if you like the outside and you enjoy watching the birds on the trees from the same level.

There’s also a custom-made bathroom, and a staircase that leads to the bedrooms.

The bedrooms are amazing, especially the one that has glass above the bed, through which you can enjoy the sky and see the stars at night.

On top of the 30-feet house, there are also two more floors of terraces, where people can enjoy the breeze that makes them comfortable even when it’s 110 degrees.

At 50 feet above the ground is the crow’s nest, which offers views of the spot where a lake will be in about four years. As Steve explains, the fact that it can be both in the trees, and at the same time above most trees, is part of why they chose that location.

On one of the balconies, there’s also a grill, which is ideal for entertaining.
