When we hear about people choosing to move into tiny homes or a bus, we think of 2-3 people at the maximum, but a whole family of six with two dogs and a snake?
We don’t see that often.
Meet the Evans family, Matt, Tessa, AJ, Parker Rae, Sam, Lucas, Quinn, and Hudson. They are a family of eight, but since two of the kids have moved out, only the four youngest kids live with Matt and Tessa.

Along with the kids, they also have two dogs and Sam’s pet snake.
Matt and Tessa made a huge decision for their family. They sold their home and bought a 1986 MCI MC9 Crusader II for $8000 and spent $21000 for renovations, ending with $29000.
They named it Gus Gus the Bus Bus, and it runs on a Detroit Diesel 8v 92 motor with no turbo.

Gus Gus is 40 feet long, bumper to bumper, but they also tow a dolly and a minivan behind the bus, so that makes it up to about 58 feet long.
This beautiful bus has three big storage bays.
They use the first bay as storage and the second one as a room for 16-year-old Sam. The third pay is where they store all their mechanical equipment.

Gus Gus can store up to 100 gallons of fresh water, 100 gallons of gray water, and 90 pounds of propane. They also have six solar panels that are 300 watts each, so that gives them a total of 1800 watts of power.
On the other side of the bus, they have a battery bank for the solar setup.
The family also has a Toyota Sienna which they use when they do grocery shopping.

You would be surprised to see how well-ventilated it is inside. It’s actually really spacious and comfortable too. It’s 280 square feet and the first thing you would appreciate is the beautiful couch which can be converted into a big dining table.
They have plenty of windows to that natural light can get in and beautiful paint on the cabinets and a patterned floor.

We love that they have lots of countertop space and a full-size fridge.
Where do they all sleep?
Sam, the eldest, is now 16 years old and has his room under the bus. It’s one of the storage areas where he has a full-sized bed, and he sleeps with his pet snake.

For the bunk area, Matt and Tessa gave each child a budget, and they customized their own beds.
Lucas, 13, owns the purple bunk, and Quinn, 12, owns the yellow bunk. Hudson, who just turned 7, chose the color turquoise.
The couple has a spacious master’s bedroom, which they all use when it’s movie time.

Of course, they have a bathroom, vanity area, washing machine, and composting toilet, which they made.
According to Lucas, it was a big adjustment moving into a bus, and he misses his friends, but he does appreciate the bond they have, the activities, and the opportunity to travel.
