The website hometalk.com offers countless great DIY ideas that you can do yourself at home.

They put out a video on YouTube that shows you how to make a stunning planter out of a doormat and an old trashcan.

This planter ends up looking super nice and high-end, but only costs you about $25 dollars to make.

To start, you’ll need an old plastic trashcan.

The one that they use in the video has the half-sphere lid with the swinging opening–be sure to save the lid to use later.

Next, grab an old doormat that has a cool design on it.

This will end up being the centerpiece of your planter.

You’re going to flip the mat over onto its back and cover it with some sort of adhesive.

Once you’ve done that, bring over the trash can body and lay it onto the mat wherever you think it looks the best.

Then you’re going to wrap the edges up and around the trash can.

You’ll need to clamp or tie off the mat so that every part of it is touching the surface of the can.

Wait for the adhesive to dry (you can check the instructions on the product that you used to find the necessary dry time) and then remove the clamps and ties.

Now that you’ve got the mat attached to the can, you’re going to spray-paint it in order to make it look like one continuous piece.

The paint also makes the planter look like it’s made out of some sort of metal.

Take whatever color you’d like–they use black in the video and it turns out nice–and paint the entire can.

Next, you’ll need to grab the lid that you set aside earlier and tape the swinging door shut from the outside.

Once it’s taped, you can flip it over and squeeze more adhesive into the cracks of the lid so that the swinging door stays shut.

After it dries, flip it over, remove the tape, drill three holes in the top, and paint it the same color as the trashcan body.

Now that it is painted, you’ll flip it over again and fill it up with some potting soil.

Add whatever plants you’d like and be sure to pack them in with plenty of good, healthy soil.

Once you’ve filled up the lid you can place it back into the trashcan.

It will sit nicely on top of it and complete your high-end planter.

The great thing about this DIY project is that it is cheap to make, fun to do, and will look awesome once it’s done.

You can make more than one and try out different colors and doormat designs on the sides.

By the time you’re done, you’ll have all of your neighbors asking where you got your awesome high-end planters from.
