This table is insane and I want one of my own.

What do you think about when you hear “High School Woodworking Projects”? You might think about bird feeders, cutting boards, and other low-cost and non-gendered projects. These items are easy to make and don’t cost schools or students a lot of money.

But this one young 10th grader decided to buck the trend. He decided to think outside the box and create a little something that the Internet is calling “The Infinity Table.”

Just wait until you get a closer look…

This incredible design is impressive and won the student perfect marks from judges earning him a well-deserved award. But the biggest accolades came after he posted about his table on Imgur that includes several process shots.

Before we make the table infinite, you need a table.

To make the illusion work required a two-way mirror to be placed in a slot on the table. That’s why the table was made in two separate parts. This part, for instance, is where the two-way mirror sits on.

The top frame, pictured below, was made after the student drilled in the rails and glued it together. He kept the inside frame sitting around to help measure out how big he needed the frame to be.

But what table is complete without legs

The student then fit in four short legs to support the table. He made sure that it fit nicely before moving on to the harder steps.

And so far, the table is looking great.

He then applied a stain to the table to give it a natural smooth wood feel. The student admitted he chose the stain because the teacher recommended it, but he was more than happy with the results.

At this point, he’d been working on the table from January to April and the due date was only weeks away.

Now it was time to add the lights.

The student then drilled a hole through the inside frame so he could get the lights in and out. The hole in the leg went all the way through so a power cord could be added without it unsafely dangling off the table.

He ran into some trouble with the lighting, as the adhesive strip wasn’t holding. But he solved it with a hot glue to force it to stay in place.

Here’s how the table looked once everything was put in place.

How did the top look when it was turned on?

With the table complete and everything installed, all that was left was to test it. And once he flipped the switch, the brilliance of his design was revealed.

The mirror effect gave the table a dizzying feeling of infinity that we couldn’t believe. Check out how the effect works on this banana.

The student’s hard work earned him perfect marks and a ribbon.

When it came time to show off his brilliant design, the judges were positively floored. No one expected to see a table like this, especially in a high school woodshop class.

And the Internet was equally surprised. As one commenter said.

“What…do they make in Woods 2 class? Functioning space stations?”

Seeing what this student came up with in 10th grade, we wouldn’t be surprised if he does design NASA’s next big project.
