Nature’s Beauty is one of the wonders of the world that’s vastness is unmeasurable, yet we often take it for granted.

That’s why most people wouldn’t look at pine needles and think “oh how beautiful.”

What about when nature meets creativity?

It takes a true artist to make something so small and mundane a gorgeous work of art.

That’s exactly what The Skilled Woman does, with just some thread, pine needles, and a ton of creativity.

The most beautiful basket you’ll see

This YouTuber uses the beauty of nature to create a stunning handmade basket using pine needles.

Hatice’s channel has gone viral many times with her crafty DIY ideas, and this one is no different.

In this video, she takes us step-by-step, hand-making a basket out of pine needles that she gathered from the forest.

Cleaning the needles

It starts with the video showing a boiling pot in which Hatice drops a huge pile of pine needles that she boils for 30 minutes.

After boiling them, she proceeds to wash them off with soapy water so that they’re nice and clean.

After boiling and washing the pine needles, she gets half of a clothespin and uses it to shred the ends off.

Once you shred off the butt end of the pine needle, you can move on to your next step!

Grab a block of beeswax

By now, you should have colorful synthetic yarn that you’ll run through beeswax, using your thumb for pressure.

After you’ve waxed all of your colorful synthetic yarn, you’ll need to blow dry it to give the yarn some nice shine.

After your yarn is shining, weave it in a simple french braid.

Find a bottom piece you like.

It should be circular and easily drilled through. Once you’ve picked the bottom piece for your basket, you’ll need to drill tiny holes all around the edges 1.5 cm apart

Cylinders are your friend

After you’ve got the holes drilled in your base, you’ll need some kind of cylinder piece to hold the pine needles together while you sew them onto your bottom.

With the pine needles in bundles and inserted through the cylinder, you can begin sewing them to the base, hole by hole.

Get creative with your colors.

It’s up to you to coordinate your colors and also make any extra fun designs.

Layer by layer, keep sewing your bundles of pine needles together until it starts to form a basket

Taking shape

Make sure you place each layer of pine needles slightly hanging over the outside edge of the last so that it begins to form a bowl shape.

Once you’ve got all your pine needles layered and sewn together, you’ll have a beautiful woven basket made straight from nature!
