November is fast approaching and you know what that means.

One day, we’ll be putting up the pumpkins and the candies on our porch. Then next, we’re weighing the best turkey to use for the family dinner. Then with a blur of holiday chores, we find ourselves opening presents in our cozy pajamas.

And while the blizzard of decorations will see you putting up one thing then another, you might find yourself with less time to prepare. However, we have a quick and perfect decoration idea for you just in case you find yourself in a tight spot.

We’ll show you how to make DIY snowflakes!

Snowflakes are one of the most beautiful natural shapes in the world. The holiday season’s perfect waltz of math and science results in an intricate hexagon that can be hard to emulate. But is it really?

For this project, you’ll need a sheet of thin cardboard or thick paper. Good options are construction paper or cardstock, but a better option would be tissue paper rolls.

The sheet you’ll use must be thin enough to be pliable and thick enough to hold it shape. Then, just get a trusty pair of scissors, a ruler, and your choice of glue. For projects like this, hot glue is recommended.

First, cut a square sheet of cardboard.

In this video, the creator used a recycled tissue paper roll which is always a good choice. Then, measure out an 8x8cm square.

You can measure a small square or a bigger square, but to share the whole idea of the project, let’s stick with 8cm first.

Make a triangle by folding the cardboard square in half.

You can do this by meeting a top corner to the opposite bottom corner. Next, draw lines connecting from the outer edge to the longest side of your triangle. These lines should be 1cm apart.

Cut the cardboard along those marked lines but do not cut through the cardboard all the way. Your cut should end just a bit before the center mark of the square.

Next, unfurl your cardboard square.

You will end up with a cardboard with strips on both sides. Make a loop by gluing the end of one strip to the opposite strip. Do this every other pair.

Do the same with the remaining strips but be sure that the loops are facing the other side.

You need to end up with one “arm” of a snowflake that radiates on two sides. To close out the arm, roll the tip to make a tiny cone.

Now, assemble your snowflake.

Do the same procedure above five more times. Glue the bases of six “arms” together as this will make up the hexagonal structure of the snowflake.

Evenly spread some PVC glue on one side and dust it with a combination of silver and blue glitter. You’ll end up with a realistic-looking snowflake.
