At one point, the website Pinterest absolutely took over the web. People spent ages designing their boards, collecting more hypothetical crafts and art projects than Martha Stewart could shake a stick at. For some, these photos were the inspiration for amazing creations— for others, collecting the pictures was just a hobby and they know the projects would never come to fruition.

For many people, attempting the project wasn’t enough though. In fact, these failed creations became known as “Pinterest Fails”, a phenomenon that took the internet by storm. In fact, Netflix has its very own show called Nailed It devoted to these “works of art”. For some naturally artistic folks, however, websites like Pinterest can be the source of endless inspiration. Take Jessica and Sinclair Breen, for instance!

Last year, Jessica and Sinclair Breen went viral when they showcased a gorgeous homemade bookshelf.

The mother of two had come across a similar photo on Google and immediately fell in love. From that moment, she knew she and Sinclair— who works as a builder—would have to give it a shot. She told FEMAIL: “When I showed Sinclair he almost had a heart attack.”

“We knew we had to try it.”

First, the couple measured their walls, passing the dimensions and image along to a graphic arts teacher at the school where Jessica works. “He magically came up with the sizes of all the panels that we got cut from a manufacturer,” she said.

The Australian company Aussie Cut formed the panels for the couple who say they spent about $900 AUD (approximately $640 USD).

Using a fake MDF wall, the couple laid out the boxes and drew out their design.

Once they had the design mapped out, they mounted the MDF wall onto their real wall and began screwing the boxes into place.

The entire project took 16 hours to complete.

“It was a huge project, but so worth it,” Jessica said.

“My boys love the seating area and bookshelf. The books along the bottom of the bookcase are all theirs— so they’re quite happy to chill for a bit there, read and hang out.”

For anyone about to start a project like this, Jessica has a few words of advice:

“All good things take time. You need to make sure you take that time, refrain from rushing and don’t cut corners.”

Of course, she adds: “Google and Pinterest are really helpful!”
