I hate to say it but I never would have thought of this on my own. This man is an upcycling genius.

Spring is in full swing and it’s time to start thinking about our outdoor areas.

While we all love our garden beds, it’s also always nice to add a new pop of color or interesting yard decor just to spice things up a bit.

Thankfully, we’ve found the perfect project!

This project not only gets you in the planting mood but also helps reduce waste from the landfill.

We’re talking about a moss rose garden feature.

There are so many benefits to gardening. It’s a form of workout that gets you out in the sun.

It may not be as strenuous as other physical workouts but it gets the whole body moving. It’s much better than just sitting down.

Plus gardening and sun exposure can lift our mood and give us energy. Gardening also helps reduce stressful feelings.

Being around nature and all that living energy takes the stress away.

“Simply looking at nature through a window can help some people feel less stressed. So, it makes sense that getting even closer to the natural world through gardening would also be a stress reducer,” Elyse Hauser wrote on lifesavvy.

To get started, you’ll need a few things.

The beauty of it is anyone can make it.

You’ll need patience, creativity, and focus.

And, of course, you’ll need high-quality soil, fertilizer, and flowering plants for your planter. In this case, they are using Moss rose (Portulaca grandiflora).

The best part about Mossrose is that they flower all year-round and have a high tolerance to drought conditions.

And they’re perfect for growing in container gardens, which is what the DIY Garden World is teaching in this video.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • plastic bottles (small ones and gallon bottles)
  • a box cutter
  • zip ties
  • a strong metal wire that can be bent according to your needs
  • cement
  • a simple soldering tool

Now for the steps:

Make sure that your small bottles are the same size and drill lots of holes for proper water drainage. Shape the metal wire according to the design you want.

Attach the bottles to the frame you’ve created using zip ties. Then, remove bottle caps and fill each with growing medium.

Once that’s done, you can create a strong, sturdy base using the gallon bottle, cement, and metal stands.

Use a soldering tool to connect it to the finished flower planter.

When the planter is done, add the moss rose plant through the holes in the plastic bottles.

Make sure that it’s in an area that gets at least six to eight hours of sunlight.

Although moss rose flower plants can survive dry weather, it still needs a little moisture so make sure to water the plants at least once a week.
