If you’ve tried “window shopping” online, the prices of most furniture and fixtures will shock you. It makes giving your home a makeover costly. No one wants to spend all that money on furniture alone; you might as well spend or save it for essential repairs.

The next option? Thrift shops or garage sales.

You will find almost everything you need at only a fraction of the price. Although, you are not assured of the quality of products you’ll get. Some are still in good enough condition, while some aren’t.

But beggars can’t be choosers, right?

We buy them anyway. All it needs is some TLC, a few materials here and there, and some creativity. Add in the muscle, and you’re in for a DIY upcycling that would be worth your while.

That’s exactly what this TikTok content creator, Simonette, did.

She wanted these beautiful couches she found online, but they cost around $5,000. She didn’t have that much money to splurge on something like a couch.

So, she searched for similar couches online.

She found one in Facebook’s Marketplace, and it was in almost the same size and shape as she was looking for. It cost $300, but she haggled and bought it for only $250. What a bargain!

Simonette had it picked up and delivered to her place.

That’s when she saw the actual situation of the couch. It was tattered and torn in most of its places, especially the leather part. The move also damaged it since the leather was already very delicate, it started to rip off.

But there’s nothing that a little upcycling can’t do.

All she needed were five blankets and three throw pillows she bought online, which cost her $100. She already had a trusty staple gun (along with staples) and started giving that couch a facelift.

She first removed the old cover material of the couch.

They were in bad shape, so she had to take them off. Good thing that the upholstery was still looking good. She also removed the couch’s legs and started the makeover process.

She started stapling the edges of the blanket at the bottom of the couch.

According to Simonette, the blanket was made of stretchable material. It made it easy to pull further to maximize the material and cover more of the couch’s surface. A lot of cutting and folding was also needed to fit the blanket through the sides.

She cut some fabric to patch up areas that the blanket’s original shape couldn’t cover.

She sewed the ends of the fabric together – which fortunately seems ‘invisible’ because of how fluffy the blankets were. Again, more stapling inside and under the couch, she finished her couch makeover.

For this project, she used two blankets for each part of the couch.

She didn’t use the inner, smaller parts of the entire set because they wouldn’t fit her place. So, she only upcycled the two bigger ends.

She gave that couch a chance, and look how beautiful it is now!
