You know how people would joke about living in the garage if they’re left with no choice? We’ve seen popular television series and movies on how friends make their garage an “extra room” for their friend to crash.

All jokes aside, a garage may be considered a small living space. But if you know how to make the garage space into something homey, you’ll find that you have enough square footage to make it a cozy tiny home.

From Garage to Tiny Home

Denise Bayron is a designer whose style leans into the minimal and practical style, which is a perfect fit for someone living in a tiny home. Her art is also evident in whichever part of her home – from exterior to interior.

She lives in a 280-square-foot garage that the homeowner turns into an accessory dwelling unit or ADU. She shares the yard with her neighbor, who lives in the main house. Her small and quiet living space made sense for Denise, as she ensured every part of the home spoke about her personality and style.

Enjoying the Outdoors

Denise loves the outdoors, and she made sure she would have the space to enjoy nature outside of her tiny home. She filled her yard with plants, among which were three cacti she had brought from her previous home.

Her outdoor space features a living room furniture set made of Acacia wood which is perfect because it can withstand heat and rain. She sewed the covers using waterproof material. A smokeless fire pit at the center would keep her and her friends warm and enjoy the outdoors.

Making a Small Space Look Big

Denise was able to maximize the space she had to make a small garage space look big. When you go inside, it seems like she’s not missing anything from what one would get from a typical home.

The moment you get inside, you see how she divided the space into different segments. She had a space for her bed, where she also maximized the space underneath as storage for her craft materials and shoes.

Another segment of her home is her sofa, where she can relax and do her knitting when she wants to do it at a more relaxed pace.

Her desk was strategically placed by the window to get some natural light in. But what Denise loved about that area was the shelf space above where she stored some craft materials and placed some indoor plants.

And on one end is her multipurpose table which opens into her sewing area or her dining table – whichever she needs at a given time. She loved how this table has drawers for storage, something that comes in handy when she’s sewing.

Further into her home is her bathroom on the left and her kitchen on the right. On the way to her bathroom is a small closet space. Her bathroom also has all the essential fixtures needed. Indeed, she’s living within her means.

Her kitchen has the same vibe as her bathroom. It may be small, but everything in there served its purpose. Since she doesn’t cook elaborate meals, Denise is happy with her two-burner stove, a small sink, and a two-door mini refrigerator.

Everything in her home screams “Denise,” and the wise use of space makes it seem like it’s not that tiny of a home at all.
